What’s the Ideal Amount of Detergent?

Contrary to what you may believe, more isn’t always better. Especially when it comes to detergent. Too much detergent can alter color and leave your laundry covered in bubbles. Unless you want to wait around while your laundry undergoes an extra rinse and spin, it’s not a good idea to add extra detergent.


What’s the right amount? That depends on both the size of your load and just how dirty it is. Fortunately, most detergent bottles come with instructions. Follow their recommendations and you can’t go wrong. It’s ok to go a little overboard if, for example, you’re washing clothing with grass and mud stains but remember, too much will only land you in trouble.
