Much as you might wish otherwise, doing your laundry is an essential task, even in the midst of a pandemic. Fortunately, the Laundry America staff works tirelessly to ensure our facilities are clean and safe to use. For those of you who are concerned about using a laundromat in these trying times, there are steps you can take to mitigate risk.
First and foremost, make it a short visit. Come prepared with your laundry already sorted and plan to fold your laundry at home. You also have the option of dropping off your laundry and picking it up later.
Secondly, plan to come alone. Limiting the number of people you bring with you is an easy step which can reduce risk. Social distancing is easier with less people.
Thirdly, don’t forget your mask. Wearing a mask reduces the risk of you contracting the virus. And it decreases the possibility of you spreading it to other people.
When it comes to your laundry, use high temperatures. A hot water wash and a high temperature dry are more likely to kill germs than the alternative. Read the care instructions on your clothing labels and select the hottest temperature you can without damaging your clothing.
Lastly, don’t shake your clothes. This may seem like a silly suggestion, but many people shake their laundry when taking it out of the dryer. This action spreads germs. Instead, place your laundry into your container and plan to fold it at home.
We hope you and your family are doing well and staying safe. For more information about safe practices visit the CDC website here: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html
